According to a recent Chief Learning Officer Magazine article, "Measurement Efforts Don’t Quite Measure Up" by Ashley St. John, 58% of learning professionals are dissatisfied with the learning measurement efforts occurring within their organization. The article cites a few reasons for this, such as lack of alignment between measurement process and strategy, as well as a failure to tie learning efforts to business outcomes. It also cites a lack of technology tools to integrate and analyze data, indicating that 37% of organizations are doing measurement manually. It does conclude by saying 71% plan to increase their learning analytics capabilities over the next two years. At Performitiv, we launched our measurement solution because our research had similar findings and we believe that we and the industry can be better.
Let's look at each of these challenges in a bit more detail, starting with process linked to strategy. It is very important to have a flexible, yet valid model that can fit into the learning operations and processes. That's why at Performitiv we created the Impact Optimization Model. The model is a comprehensive but practical approach to address the issues of impact, business results, ROI and optimization for programs.
The Impact Optimization Model is focused on linking learning efforts to business outcomes, another challenge cited in the research that Performitiv has addressed. The Model has a simple yet highly effective 4-step process for learning organizations to practically and repeatedly tell their story of learning impact. In addition, Performitiv built technology to automate the Impact Optimization Model. Not only does the technology automate the gathering of Impact Ratings, but it also uses safe and reliable APIs to automate the gathering of business outcomes. It then allows learning practitioners to trend this data and annotate on top of these trends to showcase the association of learning to the outcomes and tell a powerful, yet credible story of learning impact.
The CLO article also talked about a lack of technology integration tools. This is important to touch upon, but technology cannot be a black box where a bunch of raw data is dumped and out pops business impact. What Performitiv technology can do, is use the APIs to gather business outcome data and use friendly annotation software to highlight correlation of learning to results. Performitiv can also use AI to alert learning operations of positive and negative themes in qualitative and quantitative data, which is critical to manage by exception. Performitiv is also constantly gathering impact ratings from evaluations and tagging these to programs and people, because APIs have integrated with the LMS and HRIS.
Finally, the article stated that 71% plan to improve learning analytics in the next two years. We agree! Many organizations have already done this by using Performitiv. Check out JetBlue Airlines and Apex Tool Group as just a few quick examples. Both of these L&D operations are using Performitiv to tell their story of learning impact better and easier than they ever did before. Many other organizations are also using Performitiv because it is modern technology that leverages what the CLO article cited was missing from historic solutions, namely a strong model to tell the story of impact and a contemporary technology that uses APIs to automate the impact process. By the way, did we mention that Performitiv costs 50% less than most other learning measurement tools in the market? Our customers like that too, because to them, learning analytics should tell the story of impact, but it does not have to be complex or costly. We are seeing that everyday.
Thank you,
The Performitiv Team
